The base of a condom is a major design flaw. Skin to skin contact is possible there. There are obvious design modifications that could be made but they don’t ever seem to improve condom design. Also, as a young man, it took experience to learn how to properly have sex using a condom. After breaking condoms, having them slide off in certain positions, and pop from a small amount of air being trapped in the tip, I have finally learned how to use them as intended. There are unavoidable flaws in the design of a condom that prevent the most proper usage from ever fully protecting either person. There is a danger in the way a person is expected to put the condom on using their hands, as well – which will inevitably have pre-seminal fluids or vaginal secretions on them, if people are having foreplay, which is natural, and I’ll venture to guess, very common. I’m disturbed by the paucity of imagination used in the design of contraceptives, which have a huge impact on our world in a direct way.
Both of you who answered as of me writing this either didn’t read my entire question or are too ingrained with the typical reply to this problem to think of anything new.

Of course, johnhategoblins, condoms are our best option out of what is available. I did take health class and knew about how to properly use a condom, but it doesn’t work as well as it’s supposed to for many people – more than just me I attribute this to bad design. There must be something between a condom and a rubber suit that is much more reliable and effective.

Maria32183, that philosophy on sex is just completely naive. To believe people should just “not have sex” is about as realistic as people not driving cars. People being so lucky as to follow the christian method(so called) of only having one partner is equally unrealistic. It’s also the most condescending answer you could possibly come up with.
